What you will finish

You will have a checked feedback document containing the text, comments, and grade you intend to return.

Before you start

  • From your dashboard, open the class, choose Assignments, and open the assignment. Select the student whose feedback you want to return.
  • Finish your Teacher feedback and save a final grade if you want to include one.

Screenshots use a fictional practice class. Your labels and AI suggestions may differ. Select a screenshot to enlarge it. Close it with the X in the top-right corner or press Escape.

Check the student, then click Export

Check the student label and assignment title at the top of the page. Read the feedback and grade once more.

Click Export below the final-grade controls. A box called Export Document opens. On a smaller screen, scroll down to find Export.

Choose PDF or Word

Under File Format, click PDF for a document that keeps its layout when printed or shared. This is a good choice for your first try.

Choose DOCX if you want a Word document that you can edit afterwards. DOCX is the file type used by Word. Editing that downloaded file will not change the assessment in Refine.

Choose PDF and Concise, then click Export to download the handout.

Choose what to include

Click Concise for a short handout containing highlighted writing, your teacher feedback, and the grade. Select it explicitly: the dialog may initially show Complete.

For more control, click Custom. Tick the sections you want and untick the rest. Scroll inside Sections to Include to see the full list. Complete includes every available section.

Include: Text with Error Highlights Include: Teacher Edits & Personalized Feedback Optional: Rubric Leave out: AI-Corrected Text if you want the student to attempt the corrections first

Check that your own comment is included

If using Custom, make sure Teacher Edits & Personalized Feedback is ticked. This includes the comment you wrote in Teacher feedback.

Suggested Overall Feedback is a separate AI comment. Leave it unticked unless you have checked it and want to include both. If you do not want to share a mark yet, untick Grade Assignment.

Download, open, and return the document

Click Export at the bottom of the box and wait for the download. Look in your browser’s downloads list or your computer’s Downloads folder, then open the new file.

Check the student label, title, comment, grade, and page breaks. If a section is missing or unwanted, change the export choices and download a new copy.

Print the file or share it using your usual classroom platform. Exporting only downloads a file to your computer; it does not send it to a student.

Return to your dashboard

Check your result

  • The file is for the intended generated label and assignment.
  • It includes the teacher feedback and sections you chose.
  • Any displayed grade matches your final decision.
  • You opened and inspected the document before sharing it.

If something looks different

My teacher comment is missing.

Confirm that the comment is in Teacher feedback, then select Teacher Edits & Personalized Feedback in the export dialog. Export again and check the new file.

The export includes more than I intended.

Reopen Export and choose Custom. Review the selected sections, clear the ones you do not need, and generate a new file.

I changed the grade after downloading the document.

The downloaded file does not update automatically. Confirm the revised grade has saved in Refine, then create and inspect a fresh export.

Can I copy the feedback instead of downloading a file?

Yes. Copy corrected copies the edited text and any teacher feedback appended to it. Paste into your document with Ctrl+V on Windows or Command+V on Mac, then check it. Copy full feedback report includes a broader report, including AI feedback; read it before sharing.

I cannot find the downloaded file.

Open your browser’s downloads list or your computer’s Downloads folder and look for the newest file. If the export reported an error, keep the assessment open and try again. Downloading does not automatically open or email the document.

A useful habit

For revision work, consider whether showing the fully corrected text helps your teaching goal.

Keep private label-to-student associations outside Refine and out of demonstration materials.
